Cloudy with a Chance of Rain

Well, we buried our 14 year old cat...after she died, that is. Only a pet lover can fully understand how hard that was. I was worried that my kids wouldn't be able to handle it, but they have surprised me. We didn't give them all the details. The vet told us last week she was 90+ and her kidneys were failing, she just had a matter of time. She had unlearned how to use the litter box...fun. Anyway, we decided the time had come and it wasn't any easier than just letting it happen. Both kids cried a few tears and immediately asked for another one. I've cried more than anyone. We were blessed with her. She was a good pet and lots of fun through the years. The King isn't ready for another cat...but as Prince D said...let's put it to a family vote. The King is probably overruled. Princess C can probably sway him. More on that later. :)

Whiskers was 20...and I think it is hard for people who have never had a pet for such a significant amount of time that they really were part of the family. I took it pretty hard myself since Whiskers was my best friend from the age of three. She often got annoyed at my incessant singing and making faces at myself in the mirror... I know it's hard, and I'm thinking about you today. Let me know how the family vote turns out :) I love you~

*I just read over my comment and realized that I didn't write out my complete train of thought in one of the sentences... --I think it is hard for people *to understand* who have never--
Sorry, just wanted to clarify. My hands oftentimes go faster than my brain...kind of like when I'm trying to talk!

Hi, I just met PandaMom recently and she turned me on to your blog! I'm so sorry about your kitty. We have our 5 year old dog and 3 year old kitty and so our family hasn't hit the animal "old age" stage yet. I really dread when it happens. I'm sure she is loving kitty heaven.

Hi Funderstorm. I am Panda-mom's friend from Dallas. I thought I'd check out your blog. I am so sorry to hear about your cat. We have been dog owners for the past 17 years (2, Baby and Delilah). We lost Baby after 14 years and our Delilah (English Bulldog) just died a month ago. It was pretty tragic. Not the normal bulldog issues, heatstroke, hip problems... She actually got her head stuck in a chip bag late one night and suffocated. We were devastated. First of all, we didn't realize we left an empty chip bag in the living room, but why would you even think twice about it? Anyway, we had to explain death to Spicy Girl for the first time. After lots of tears, she also asked for a new puppy. Mommy Spice is not ready yet.
